Introduction
The health care debate that has been raging for the past year has just plunged over a new peak as President Obama signed into law the health care overhaul that passed in the House by just seven votes. Both sides advanced passionate arguments, yet most representatives did not change their positions. President Obama has now set out to persuade America of its benefits.
Even now, however, the health care debate is not over. 14 states have filed lawsuits against the federal government condemning the health care overhaul. What is necessary to resolve the debate and settle once and for all the solution to health care?
Positions
In this debate, Democrats are arguing that this bill will make life easier for millions of Americans. On the other hand, opponents of the bill - mostly Republicans - are arguing that it will raise debt, raise the deficit, and take away freedom. Neither side, of course, agrees that the other side's arguments are valid, but in this essay for the purpose of argument, let's assume that both sides are right - in other words, that the bill will make life easier for millions of Americans and that it will raise debt, raise the deficit, and take away freedom.
